Our Mission

The mission of the Weaverville Elite Track Club is to develop youth Track and Field and Cross Country athletes in Buncombe, Madison, and Yancey counties. Elite performance standards are set for athletes in the 8th grade and above. These standards are based on the general competitive quality of local, regional, and national performances within the respective age groups. Our youth programs (6-12 year olds) are developmental in nature and do not have performance standards.

We seek to provide high level coaching and competitive exposure that is not provided within institutional programs. We provide a variety of seasonal programs, competitive opportunities, and individual coaching. We strive to be a continuing education program that will continuously research, develop, and teach. It will be expected that our athletes become students of our sports. Our coaches are professionals and have acquired professional credentials. Our coaches are compensated and club fees are set accordingly.

The WETC is a Track and Field and Cross Country sport program. We believe these sports are stand alone sports and do not primarily function to provide fitness or speed training for other sports. While many of the qualities developed with focused Track and Field and Cross Country training aid in general sport performance, this is not our mission. We do not train athletes for other sports. We train athletes for our sports. However, we will encourage youth athletes, generally under 13 years of age, to participate in other sports when they are not in-season with Track and Field or Cross Country. Youth participation in a variety of sports has proven to be more effective for long term athletic development than early sport specialization. We do not believe in early sport specialization. However, we will not attempt to train kids participating in other sports during our competitive seasons. This often results in fatigue, burn-out, or injury.

The WETC is an AAU and USATF affiliated program. All of our coaches have completed the US Center for Safe Sport Program and required background screenings. Our coaches hold certifications from: The National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM), United States Weightlifting (USAW), USA Track and Field (USATF), and The National Federation of State High School Associations (HFHS).
